James H. (Jim) Wild

Jim Wild of Sarcoxie, Missouri, bought his first mare in 1956, beginning what would become one of the most successful and noteworthy ventures into the business of raising Appaloosa horses.  Acquiring Star Mist and a daughter of Joker B., the Wild family ranch, the Flying W, launched a program that would become one of the leading Appaloosa operations in the country. Wild’s farm has been home to legends like Coke Roberds and Wapiti, a stallion Wild originally owned with Colorado horseman Cecil Dobbin, and modern day powerhouses like Andrew’s Bartender and Precocious Skip.
