King’s prominent role was during the first decade of Appaloosa Racing and is confirmed by attainment of his title of leading Appaloosa trainer in 1964, 1965, 1967 and 1970 and that of leading Appaloosa racehorse owner in 1966, 1967 and 1970.  His talent for adapting the beneficial training to each horse earned him a number of major stakes wins and his efforts increased racing opportunities for all Appaloosas.
