Dude’s Bonanza

Dude’s Bonanza (Joker’s Dude x Coy’s Spider Web, AQHA), a 1967 stallion owned by Charlene Bowman of Bosque Farms, New Mexico, was bred by the late Carl Miles of Abilene, Texas.

“Dude” had success in the show ring in halter. He accumulated grand and reserve championships and points at eight National and World shows before the ApHC’s point system was up and running. Dude placed in the top 10 at all shows he attended in pleasure classes, reining, rope race and barrel racing, among others. Dude also cleaned up at prestigious shows such as the Dixie National, Houston Livestock, San Antonio Livestock and Denver National shows.

Dude’s offspring fared well in the show ring and so did their offspring. Lucky Bonanza, a 1975 gelding by Little Melody B, earned 36 halter points, 120 performance points, five registers of merit, one superior event title, 60.5 youth points and 37 non-pro points. Also, Heza Dude, a 1973 stallion of the same pedigree produced 112 registered foals, with 14 earning 440 performance points, 38 earning 854 halter points, 19 earning 30 registers of merit and three bronze medallions.

Dude passed away due to an aneurism.

“I felt fortunate to own him,” Charlene says. “I enjoyed him a lot and he had a great disposition and was really pretty — things you look for in any breed of horse.”
