In the 1950s and 1960s, Dick Spencer helped champion the Appaloosa breed as editor of Western Horseman and later as publisher.  Spencer was also an owner and breeder of Appaloosas.  He served as the Master of Ceremonies at several Queens’s Dinners and was a popular personality at a variety of these functions.
