Joker’s Moneca


Joker’s Moneca is known as the dam of Ledge Deck, but she held
her own while on the track. The 1961 mare was bred and owned
by Carl Miles of Abilene, Texas, and later purchased by Elizabeth
Hobson. She was by Joker B. and out of Cutie Pie.

Of 22 starts, Joker’s Moneca won 15 with lifetime earnings of
$9,429. As a 2 year old, she set an all-breed track record at 220 yardsin Texas; as a 3 year old, she won the 1964 Texas Derby and theinaugural running of the Oklahoma Appaloosa Derby at Midway Downs.

She raced against other Appaloosa track greats of her day, defeating Ipana Maid and Boogie Britches several times. Joker’s Moneca broke a 440-yard world record for all sexes and ages set by Double Hancock, and broke that record in five separate races.

She produced one registered foal, Ledge Deck, and died in June
1967 of colic.passed away.
