Joe Richard

At age 74, Joe Richard of Garland, Texas, isn’t letting his age come between him and his Appaloosas. He began showing on the Appaloosa circuit in 1982 and won National and World champion halter gelding titles that year. Now Joe has more than 50 National and World championships and numerous other regional high-point and year-end honors.
Joe feels it’s important to be involved in every aspect of the breed. He’s served as a director on the national board, as rules committee chairman, trail committee chairman and finance committee chairman. Joe served as president of the Appaloosa Cutting Horse Association for five years, is the current treasurer of the club and has sponsored the association for 15 years. Joe is also the treasurer of the Appaloosas Youth Foundation, has been on the board of directors for both the Dal-Worth and Texas Appaloosa Clubs from 1983 to the present, and continually sponsors various year-end awards.
Joe also supports ApHC trail riding programs. He’s been on the Club’s trail ride committee for 12 years and has ridden all 13 segments of the Chief Joseph Trail Ride, retiring as a scout in 2003. Joe continues to ride the Apache Land Trail Ride in Oklahoma each year as a scout.
